OSHA Releases Top 10 Violations of Safety Standards

November 20, 2012 - OSHA released its top 10 list of most frequently violated standards during fiscal year 2012 at the National Safety Congress & Expo in Orlando. Among the most common violations were those tied to work performed at heights. The top five most common violations were:

  •    Fall Protection (1926.501)
  •   Hazard Communication (1910.1200)
  •   Scaffolding (1926.451)
  •    Respiratory Protection (1910.134)
  •    Ladders (1926.1053)

These five together resulted in citations for 20,441 violations, according to the agency.

“We appreciate our colleagues at OSHA sharing their most recent data at our Celebration of the Century,” said Janet Froetscher, National Safety Council President and CEO. “While great progress has been made in safety over the past 100 years, today's presentation reminds us there is more to be done to make our workplaces safer.”

The top 10 list also will be published in the December issue of the council's Safety + Health magazine.
