Better Environmental Education Achieved Through Teaching Green School Buildings

March 17, 2016 – A study examined five middle schools across the country with varying degrees of energy efficient designs.  Schools designed as “teaching green” with more sustainable cultures, had students with more knowledge and appreciation for environmentally friendly practices such as recycling and energy conservation. 

The study also showed that any way educators utilized existing space, for example, making an outdoor classroom or learning garden, impacted the students’ perspective.  As our children grow up, they will be the decision makers on building design.  Education now can help solve our environmental problems in the future.
